Volunteer Background Check

Volunteer Form
Screening Process

We want to provide our children & families with a safe environment. That includes volunteers who have never been involved in sexual abuse or other crimes that could put our children at risk. Because we have this standard, it requires us to have every person who applies to work with our children go through this background check. Every applicant will go through the following steps to ensure that our children will not be in danger. If any of these requirements are not met, an applicant will be denied access to working with our children.

Step 1- Form Application

Each applicant is required to to complete an application. This information is used to help find the right placement for each volunteer and to gather basic information for future communications. References are a crucial part of the process, and we will not be able to process your application without them.

Step 2- Criminal History Checks

Each applicant is required to fill out the sheet that authorizes Imago Dei to run a criminal history check. If the applicant refuses to authorize that action, then the application and interview process will cease. Once the Children & Family office has obtained the authorization sheet, they will run a criminal history check. If an applicant has a charge against them for the sexual abuse of a minor or any other crime that puts our children at risk, the applicant will not be able to serve within Imago Dei's Children & Families ministry.

Step 3- Reference Checks

Each applicant is required to give the names, addresses, e-mails & phone numbers of three references. Those three cannot be family members, they must have known the applicant for at least three years, and be able to recommend them for ministry with children. The Children & Families staff will contact each reference either by phone, in person, or by e-mail. Once the check is done it is a requirement for the office personnel to document the questions asked and the answers given along with the date and time. These references will be added to the prospective volunteer's file and securely. If overall references are negative, the applicant will not be asked to serve with Imago Dei's children and families, student ministries, or security.

Step Four- Training

For Imago Dei Kids, applicants must read and understand the "job descriptions" given to them along with the "policies & procedures" that their leaders will go over when they observe in a classroom. New volunteers will be directed to our website to read through the function of our ministry, saftey and procedures, and what to expect in the classrooms. If the leaders have reservations, then an evaluation will occur and the applicant may be asked to stop volunteering.

Step Five- Membership

Step #5 - Membership (for leadership positions)
Any applicant wanting to lead an area of Imago Dei Kids, student ministries, Childcare, or Security must be a member of Imago Dei Community. This is important for legal, liability, and value reasons. We believe the leaders in our ministry should be yoked with core values of Imago Dei, and participating as family.
