The King of the universe washes feet.
Community, according to Scripture, is like a human body. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts. And the whole depends on each part.
The community of Imago Dei exists, on a practical level, because its people serve one another. Following the call and example of Jesus, every week volunteers come not to be served, but to serve. Some dive into the children’s ministry. Some roll up their sleeves for Set Up and Tear Down. Others choose to greet and guide people with the hospitality team. During the week, everything depends upon volunteers, from the Imago Dei Office to Imago Dei Arts.
God’s community serves each other in this way in order to be a people able to serve the world. For Imago Dei Community to live up to its name and reflect the image of God to the world, service within the church must always connect to service beyond it. The gospel of Jesus isn't about love being available when you step into a building. It's about love overflowing through Christ's people in service to all the world.
