Ultimately as the gospel of Jesus transforms his followers they are unleashed on a world broken and needy. They charge out of the church and into the mess which God is reconciling and re-ordering. Some join activities and ministries already established through the church, others get jobs with social service organizations, some just simply live incarnationally in their neighborhoods, still others, pregnant with innovation and led by the Spirit, start new initiatives to display the Kingdom of God. This is the beauty of gospel, church and culture intersecting. As the gospel of Jesus transforms the disciple in and through the church (at times even in spite of programs and ministries), discipleship occurs and culture is impacted by such transformed followers.
We hope for this, we aim for it, we labor "with all (Jesus') energy which so powerfully works within (us)." It is not as though people at Imago Dei need to join up with what we've cooked up (even though we cook up a lot). No, our expectation is that many from our community will become so infected with missional DNA that whether in SE Portland or Nepal, the UK or Uganda, life will be lived missionally out of a deep love for God.
As you live to reveal the kingdom and engage in God's redemptive work in the world, will you login and tell us your stories? Will you post brief vignettes of what this unleashed discipleship looks like? These stories will be inspiring and encouraging as we hear what God is doing beyond what we know about.
