Genesis Change groups are gender-specific small communities of people who desire to change because they are tired of struggling with painful chronic personal problems or self-destructive coping behaviors such as chemicals/substances, sex, food, anxiety, relationships etc. These groups utilize a biblically grounded curriculum called The Genesis Process which guides the participants through their recovery process. Most groups meet on Monday nights in the Evangel Baptist Fellowship Hall (2830 NE Flanders, Portland), from 7-9 p.m. For other group time options or for more information, contact or click here.

what is the genesis process?
The Genesis Process is for those who have
struggled with painful chronic personal problems or self-destructive coping
behaviors such as chemicals, sex, food, work, anxiety, relationships etc. The
Genesis principles are practical and Biblically sound tools for helping those
who want to change, to be able to change.
what material do we use?
We use the Genesis Process curriculum, which is a total of three tracks. We
ask participants to pay for their own books, which are $12 each. We provide
scholarships for those who cannot afford the book.
how long do I have to commit?
Each track is roughly 10 weeks long, depending on the groups pace.
Participants are strongly encouraged to attend every week to the best of their
ability. A group closes within 1-2 weeks, so it is imperative to enter into a
group as soon as possible. Otherwise, you will have to wait until another group
starts. You could attend Refuge recovery class called Imago Novus (new image)
starting any Monday night. More on the class in the next section.
what are the group dynamics?
Each group is one gender only led by a facilitator. Groups are only 4-6
people each. Visitors in the group are not allowed; however, visitors are
encouraged to attend the Refuge class called Imago Novus. This general class
offers information from various recovery themes during the time the change
groups are meeting. The class is the place to be while you are waiting to enter
into a new group.
when do these genesis groups meet?
Most of the Genesis groups meet at Refuge, which occurs every Monday night from 7-9p in the Evangel Baptist Fellowship Hall (2830 NE Flanders). For other group time options or more information, click here.
