Kari Dunham’s work focuses on the human figure and the emotions and experiences that each person carries. Of late, she has also become interested in the interior spaces where people live out their daily lives.

These drawings are made from charcoal on wood. They are deeply vulnerable and raw works for Kari as these past months have been a sorrowful and dark time for her. Still, there is beauty and hope that come from ashes and mourning.
“The thought of my suffering and homelessness is bitter beyond words. I will never forget this awful time, as I grieve over my loss.
Yet I still dare to hope when I remember this:
“The unfailing love of the Lord never ends! By his mercies we have been kept from complete destruction. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each day. I say to myself, “The Lord is my inheritance; therefore I will hope in him!” - Lamentations 3:19-24

Written word is also accompanying the works of Kari hanging in the Lobby of Imago Dei. These words have been written by Virginia Hood.

“In writing these pieces, I thought a lot about surrender to God…how sin is a heavy burden to bear, and will exhaust us for as long as we resist Christ. These pieces were influenced by the writings of John Donne, who wrote often on the tension of following Christ in a broken world, and the beauty of surrender.” – Virginia Hood
A full collection will be on display during the Lenten Season in the Imago Dei Community sanctuary lobby. For more information about the Lenten Season or Imago Dei Arts Community you may contact: Paul Ramey – Pastor of Arts and Worship
