Local Outreach Missional Community - Overview

On the same night Jesus was betrayed, He startled His twelve closest followers by washing their dirt-caked feet and telling them to serve one another with the same kind of humbled love. The gospel that mentions this story does not tell us who, if anyone, washed Jesus’ feet that night.

But now Christ’s followers live in the daily chance to obey Him and wash His feet all at once. By engaging in everything with a passion that honors God and neighbor first, Christ's followers become living prayers, living praises, living outposts of God’s kingdom come on earth. By striving to meet specific neighbors in Portland with Christ’s love tailored to them, God’s mission becomes Imago's action. And by sharing about how Christ is leading His people personally and collectively, despite specific weaknesses and sins, God’s journey becomes recognizable as a human journey. It is then that the claim that Christ’s feet touched dirt can suddenly sound earthshaking. It is then that the declaration that he faced every temptation can be most liberating.

Imago Dei Community exists to equip, encourage, and unleash each other to be Christ to each other, and to Portland, and to the world—in any simple, surprising, or scandalous way imaginable.
