Love Portland Schools 2011

Loving Portland Schools All Year Round

Ministry Vision:

Everybody knows Portland schools are hurting.  Love Portland is our one-day event every summer where hundreds of Imago Dei volunteers descend on our five Portland partnership schools to clean, beautify and transform.  But the opportunities to serve don’t end there.  We have year-round partnerships at Kelly Elementary School, Harrison Park K-8, and Franklin High School with opportunities to serve throughout the year.

SUN provides an open door to the school for community members to get engaged in the lives of youth.  We have many diverse opportunities for involvement, ranging from a low level of commitment (one-time events or projects) to a high level of commitment (ongoing student support).  Whether you love working one-on-one with adolescents, want to support them from a distance, or anything in between, we have a place for you!  Some of our current needs are: tutors, mentors, people to help serve meals to students, library volunteers, administrative support, donations, and student sponsorships.

SUN stands for “Schools Uniting Neighborhoods” and our purpose is to serve as a support hub, and community partner through providing a comprehensive array of educational, enrichment, recreational, social, and health services to students and families.

Community Schools are a national model of school-based service delivery and educational support.  Franklin SUN, contracted through Impact NW, coordinates before & after-school activities, adult education opportunities, family & community events, social service referrals & resources, and general on-site support to staff, students and families of Franklin High School.
