We at Imago Dei see the institution of marriage as a God-given gift and a reflection of the
relationship between Christ and His church. This God-imagery is vividly depicted in the marriage
relationship as we love and respect each other:
“The husband provides leadership to his wife the way Christ does to his church, not by
domineering but by cherishing. So just as the church submits to Christ as he exercises such
leadership, wives should likewise submit to their husbands… Christ's love makes the church
whole. His words evoke her beauty. Everything he does and says is designed to bring the best
out of her, dressing her in dazzling white silk, radiant with holiness. And that is how husbands
ought to love their wives…” Ephesians 5
This is why we take great joy in supporting engaged couples on their walk towards marriage!
As a church we ask that the day of the wedding be preceded by pre-marital counseling to help
you as husband and wife understand the commitment, love, and repentance necessary in this life-long
picture of God and His church; this counseling will usually be done by the pastor performing the
wedding.
