IMAGO ELEMENTARY
Welcome to Imago Elementary! These are the years where kids really start to own their faith and discover more deeply who Christ is and how they are part of His story.
Kids stay together for first half of class for games & activities, worship and a solid teaching time. Teachers read scripture with kids, answer questions and pose questions, and relate to kids by sharing their own stories of faith as they take them through the curriculum. Response projects are often done in these groups that involve arts, writing, prayer, projects, serving, etc.
We provide a weekly family take home sheet which links directly into the theme for the week and offers you relevant scripture passages, opportunities to engage with the theme practically and different ideas for how to discuss the topic with your children.
CURRICULUM:
The following themes take kids through a journey from understanding themselves and how they relate to Christ to learning the particulars of who God is and how He works actively in relationship. The themes then shift into learning about Jesus, who He is and how to be more like Him, a child’s response of what living for Christ looks like and how ultimately, His reign is both here on earth and in the Kingdom to come.
Experience
All themes are taught in the context of experience so that it connects with children in a tangible way. Many times, in addition to a group worship time, we’ll we have someone from the Imago Dei community come and share their talent, passion or story with our kids so that kids can ask questions and learn from their teacher and the Bible how it connects to God’s understanding of life.
Application
We have teachers of good character that teach the small group time with specific age groups. They connect what kids experienced in the large group setting to what the bible says. Teachers usually serve weekly and therefore are a consistent face and safe person for your child to ask questions and grow in their faith with. Parents are encouraged to talk with teachers before or after class about how their child is responding to the content – socially, emotionally, spiritually, etc.
Response
Each week after teaching the Bible and discussing a theme with the kids, there is a response time. The medium varies from week to week (writing, art, conversation, prayer, going and doing). Kids are encouraged to take time to respond to what they have learned.
