Genesis Change groups are gender-specific small communities of people who desire to change because they are tired of struggling with painful chronic personal problems or self-destructive coping behaviors such as chemicals/substances, sex, food, anxiety, relationships, etc. These groups utilize a biblically grounded curriculum called The Genesis Process, which guides the participants through their recovery process. Most groups meet on Monday nights at 1302 SE Ankeny St, from 7-9 p.m. For other group time options or more information, contact
FAQs
What is The Genesis Process?
From the text: "The Genesis Process is an attempt to provide the necessary understanding, as well as the practical tools, for real and permanent change. It is a blend of biblical principles, understanding of the brain, and proven recovery strategies for not only freedom from self-destructive behaviors, ut also addressing the underlying issues that drive them."
What materials do we use?
We use The Genesis Process curriculum, which is a total of two tracks. We ask participants to pay for their own books, which are $12 each. We provide scholarships for those who cannot afford the book.
How long do I have to commit?
Each track is roughly 12 weeks long, depending on the group’s pace. Participants are strongly encouraged to attend every week to the best of their ability. A group closes within 1-2 weeks, so it is imperative to enter into a group as soon as possible. Otherwise, you will have to wait until another group starts. You can attend the Refuge recovery class on Monday nights as you wait for the next group to open.
What are the group dynamics?
Each group is one-gender-only led by a facilitator. Groups typically consist of 4-6 people each. Visitors in the group are not allowed; however, visitors are encouraged to attend the Refuge class on Monday nights. This class offers information from various recovery themes during the time the change groups are meeting. The class is the place to be while you are waiting to enter into a new group.
When do these genesis groups meet?
