Imago Dei Partner
Real change--change that can alter the course of a life--is made through relationships. As Christ invites us into relationship with Him, He also invites us into relationships with others as His hands and feet. Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) invites us into relationship with the kids of Portland, one relationship at a time. Believing that their vision for kids and our vision for reaching out to Portland intersect, Imago Dei is partnering with BBBS to try to get more folks from our community involved with the kids of Portland. Over 90% of our Littles (ages 6-16) live in single-parent/guardian homes, with at least one sibling.
As you can imagine, opportunities for one-on-one time with an adult are rare. BBBS connects at-risk kids with caring adults. Through these relationships, kids gain explosure to positive activities, lifestyles, opportunities, choices, ideas, and possibilities. No special skills are required--just the sincere desire to hang out, to listen, and to share your life. A couple hours per week could transform a kid's entire future.
Together, one relationship at a time, we can make a difference in the lives of young people all over Portland. Please consider one of the following areas of service:
Prayer Support
We would greatly appreciate your prayer support that Christ might powerfully use the relationships we have already established in our community to transform hearts and draw all of us nearer to Himself.
Along with that, we also pray God would be preparing & stirring adults to get involved to become matches for one of the long list of at risk kids waiting, some for over a year, for a Big.
Volunteer as a Big
Being a Big is a wonderful chance to let your inner child come out and play by enjoying weekly low-cost activities with your Little: go on hikes, stroll around Saturday market, play in one of Portland's numerous fountains, prepare & eat a dinner together, play cards/games, volunteer for a cause you both care about, go to movies, bowling, movies, nickel arcades, complete a project together, take a community center class, the list could go on and on. Real change takes trust and time, so BBBS asks for a one year commitment.
